Are You Drowning in Life?

Standard

Have you ever felt that you are being completely smothered by your life? Like you have slipped under the current and now you can’t catch your footing? Like you just can’t seem to catch a break?

Well trust me, I know exactly how you feel. In fact, it seems that a lot of people that I have spoken to recently are having a difficult time with life in general right now. It is easy to get swept up in the urgency of things; the meetings, lectures, due dates, planners, assignments, responsabilities, etc… Life moves quickly, and if you cannot learn to juggle all of the demands that you have placed upon yourself or allowed to be placed upon you, then you will most certainly drown.

So are we all doomed to a miserable, hectic fate? I am happy to say NO! Absolutely not. There is not reason that we should spend our lives been swallowed by stress and pressure. That’s no way to live. There is no enjoyment in that.

Tell me this, which group of words sounds better?

A. Chaos, busy schedules, deadlines, appointments, assignments, tasks, to-do lists, meetings, projects, chores, requests, bills, letters, phone calls, alarms, text messages, e-mails, memos, reminders, jobs, expectations, rushing, demands…..

B. Beauty, awareness, relaxation, appreciation, gratitude, acknowledgement, vitality, energy, tranquility, free time, hobbies, peace, simplicity, bliss, joy, improvement, opportunity, possibility, dreams, passion, pleasure, fulfillment, adventure, nature, travel…

Honestly…which life would you chose?

Well, with the help of Elaine St. James, I am choosing option B.! Elaine St. James is the author of the books “Simplify Your Life”, “”Living the Simple Life”, and “Inner Simplicity”, and she is an expert on simplifying your life and making room for the things we truly enjoy. I adore her books, and over the next several weeks as I read them all, I am going to share some of the best tips with you, so that you can benefit from her amazing amounts of wisdom and make some space for yourself in your own life.

I’m an Athlete!!

So……

Today I signed up for my first 5K……on Friday.

Yep, that’s exactly one full day away from right now. We are talking about the day after tomorrow. As in, not tomorrow, but the very next day. As in VERY SOON! Last week I saw an ad for the 5K at my gym. Since my hubby is in the military, I get access to the gym on base for free (one plus side to this very unbearable lifestyle). Two weeks ago, that meant that I had access to a creepy locker room with empty holes where the feminine product disposal boxes should be attached to a cramped weight room with a co-ed sauna that reeked of years of sweaty, overweight marines trying to drop 10 pounds after stuffing themselves with beer and greasy fried chicken and burritos, followed by a dingy gymnasium that you have to run across to get to the cardio room, and this is always dangerous because there are marine squadrons playing basketball games against each other, whipping basketballs blindly while small redheads attempt to reach the treadmills without losing any teeth, and if you survived that you got to jump over the cockroaches that scurried from the janitorial closet as you ascend the steep, zero-traction cement staircase to the cardio equipment. As of 2 weeks ago, I now have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center, complete with a rock climbing wall and a women’s only sauna. I am one happy little gym rat.

And now my mind returns to the impending run.

Part of me is thinking: What the hell-patties was I thinking?

The other part of me says: Bitch, you got this.

And the biggest part of me says: I don’t want to get up at 7 A.M. during spring break!!!!

Yes, you heard me correctly, I am on Spring Break ladies and gents! A 21 year old on Spring Break. SPRING BREAK 2013, LOOK OUT! Spring Break is the time for girls like me to let loose and get drunk. It is time to eat sinful foods, dance my adorable face off, swear like a darn tootin’ sailor, and get my hands a little bit dirty. It’s time for me to let my wild side out, embrace temptation, and give in to the desires that I usually suppress. Basically, it is time for me to get drunk, take my top off, and submit the pictures to my retired Suicide Girls account.
